Our staff, volunteers and supporters, in every part of the British Isles and beyond, raise considerable funds and, as importantly, increase public awareness of the charity’s work. Every year the number and diversity of the events we run and support grows. Many of our staff have previous military experience, but are also professional fundraisers on hand to provide help and advice to our fantastic supporters who want to fundraise for us or organise their own fundraising events.

Army Benevolent Fund East Anglia
Welcome to our East Anglia Regional Office which is based in Merville Barracks, Colchester, Essex. The team consists of Simon Ferrier, Engagement Manager and Alys Potter, Senior Events Manager who work together with our fantastic committees, volunteers and supporters across the length and breadth of the region, raising both money and awareness. Together we run many exciting fundraising events each year, from motorcycle rides and mud runs to concerts, curry lunches and quizzes.
Our fundraisers and volunteers are an integral part of our team, and we are here to support them every step of the way. Army Benevolent Fund North East and Yorkshire
Welcome to the North East and Yorkshire ABF regional contact page.
Based in Catterick Garrison, the home of the British Army in the North, we provide the ABF focal point for fundraising activity across the region. The local team of Barney Barnbrook, Amy Simeon and Jim Duffy, supported by our wonderful volunteers, and soldiers from our local Army units, run enjoyable and challenging events and activities throughout the year. Our annual ‘flagship’ events include the Yorkshire Big Curry Lunch (Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, York, June) and the Durham Cathedral Festival of Remembrance (Durham Cathedral, November). We also offer places each year to run for Team ABF in the Great North Run.
Our office at Hipswell Lodge (the former home of Lord Baden Powell) is easily accessible and we welcome visitors (preferably by appointment) – the kettle is (mostly) always on! Whilst we work pretty much all hours, you can generally find us in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Being only a small team, we are quite often out and about, so it may be worth calling ahead.
We are here to support and advise fundraisers across the North East and Yorkshire, in addition to running our own events. If you would like to support the British Army’s national charity, please do get in touch and we will be happy to discuss options with you.

Enjoy a leisurely walk across the sands as you take the breath-taking views across the beautiful Morecambe Bay, with the ever-popular 6-8 (approximate) mile walk across the sands, whilst raising funds for The Army Benevolent Fund in the company of serving soldiers. The 3-4 hour walk, led by the King’s Guide Michael Wilson, offers a fun event whatever the weather.
Tour de Manc has something for everyone, with four possible routes its a ride thats enjoyed by cyclists of all differing abilities, ages and identities.
